The Organ ...

Our organ is the largest and finest in Scunthorpe town.  It was originally built in 1925 by Ernest Wadsworth of Manchester and placed in the Trinity Methodist Church in High Street Scunthorpe.

This church was closed in December 1959 and the organ was dismantled by Hele of Plymouth and placed in store in the Methodist Church in Trent Street, Frodingham.  During this time a new console and pedal organ was built, all reed pipes re-voiced and a new electric pneumatic action installed.

The instrument was built into the new St. Mark's Church by Hele & Co. in 1962 and opened by Richard South on July 14th to a crowded church.

The organ plays a very important part in worship and helps add inspiration and tone to the hymn singing and general accompaniment to the services.

The original cost of the instrument was £20,000 and the cost of replacement today would be more like £500,000.
